CENTRE FOR DIGITAL LEARNING

A National Achievement by Sadakathullah Appa College in NPTEL Examinations Conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science.

The Government of India is promoting digital learning with a motto, 'Access, Equity and Quality' to realize our Country's digital potential and digital future. To achieve this, The Ministry of Education has launched a programme called SWAYAM to offer Massive Open Online Courses to students and faculty. National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is one of the nine National Coordinators nominated by MoE to design and deliver domain-based quality Online Courses and e-Contents. Realising the wake of digitalization in Higher Education Landscape, Sadakathullah Appa College has set up Centre for Digital Learning to integrate SWAYAM-NPTEL, IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Project, and the Skill Enhancement Programmes conducted by ICT Academy.

The College has made a tie up with Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, to utilise the quality services rendered by the Premier Institutions. The College was recognised as a SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapter by Ministry of Education to offer NPTEL Online Certification Courses, and the Local Chapter was inaugurated on 26.07.2018. Within a short span of two years, about 1000 students from our College have cleared the NPTEL Examinations conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology.

The Ministry of Education has released a ranking of 100 Arts and Science Colleges in India that have performed notably in the SWAYAM-NPTEL Examinations. Sadakathullah Appa College has been ranked at the Sixth Place at the National Level by Ministry of Education. Also, the College has been rated as 'The Best Local Chapter in Arts, Science and Commerce Category' among the 100 SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapters in India, and 'A Valuable Local Chapter' with a rating of 'A'. Dr. Shajun Nisha, NPTEL SPOC (Single Point of Contact) and Dean, Centre for Digital Learning has been awarded 'Certificate of Appreciation' for her instrumental role as SPOC for the SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapter. 13 of our NPTEL Mentors from various Departments have been certified as 'Nationalised Mentors' by The Ministry of Education for their pioneering role as Mentors of the respective Departments.

The College is collaborating with IIT Bombay to offer Spoken Tutorials in various disciplines under the initiative known as National Mission on Education Through Information Communication Technology NMEICT, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI). 14 Departments have conducted Five-Day Workshops on the Open Source Softwares such as Latex, Front Accounting, Libre Office, Ruby, Blender, Introduction to Computers, Avagardo, Kola Library Management System, Gedit Text Editor ExpEyes, etc. A total of 1842 students have benefited by the Student Development Programmes hosted by the Departments in association with IIT Bombay and Centre for Digital Learning of our College.

The Ministry of Education expects every learner to demonstrate Communication Skills, ICT Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, Scientific Reasoning Skills, Analytical Reasoning Skills, Research Related Skills, Entrepreneur Skills, etc to become employable and to emerge as skilled entrepreneurs. The College has created a linkage with ICT Academy to offer Skill Edge Programmes, Power Seminars and SETGETGO programmes to hone the skills of the student community. 1514 students have participated in such Skill Development Programmes. 16 Faculty have attended the Faculty Development Programmes conducted by ICT Academy.

The Managing Committee under the visionary leadership of the Secretary and Correspondent Alhaj.T.E.S. Fathu Rabbani, the Principal Dr. M. Mohamed Sathik; the Vice-Principal Dr. S.M.A. Syed Mohamed Khaja; the Faculty Heads; the Department Mentors are supporting generously the Student-Faculty Development Programmes initiated by Centre for Digital Learning. The Managing Committee, the Principal and the Vice-Principal felicitated Dr. S. Shajun Nisha, the SPOC, NPTEL, Chief Coordinator, STP, IIT Bombay and Dean, Centre for Digital Learning, Dr. S. Mohamed Haneef and Dr. M.N. Abusali Sheik, the Coordinators, and the Mentors, for their selfless efforts to fulfilling the vision of the College. The College is completing Half-a-Century in Service to Higher Education in the 2021 Academic Year and is marching towards excellence in its services to students, faculty and society.
