About Department

Along with the very inception of the traditional Sadakathullah Appa College in 1971, the Department of physical education was established. Mr. K.D. Devadass Daniel Raj was the founder Director of Physical Education.

He held the post till 1996. During his tenure, Mr. Devadass took efforts to establish the department as a renowned one. Since then, students of the physical education department have been performing and outshining well across events.

In 1979, the long cherished dream of constructing a Basket Ball Court became a reality. Thus, the college basketball court is 41 years old. Thanks to the grant of Rs. 7, 500 from the UGC and a liberal assistance from the college management.

This has resulted in the construction of a standardized concrete basketball court on the campus. Incidentally, this concrete basketball court on our campus is the second of its kind in of of Tirunelveli.

Further, our college Track and field ground were the venue for the University 'D' Zone Inter Collegiate Athletic Meet once. In addition, intercollegiate cricket and football matches were conducted at our college playground,

since the playground is available only in our college.Since 1980, with the introduction of Physical Education as a cocurricular subject, the department admitted 130 and 80 students for first and second years respectively for the UG programmes

1983, our dynamic and nimble Physical Director had the unique distinction of being a Referee for the IX Asiad at New Delhi

During the academic year 1996-97, the department of Physical Education was without a Physical Director. Hence, Dr. Israel Devadas was looking after the activities of the Department with a great sense of commitment.

At present, sports and games have become an integral part of education. Many matches can be won in our play grounds, if we infuse the spirit of companionship and honest dealing in our field of play. Our darling of sports during the academic year 1997-98 was Mr. Shanmuga Sundaram of I M Com.

We express our hearty thanks to Dr. Israel for having played an extra role of professor in-charge of physical Education till Mr. N. Mohamed Mustafa M.A. M.PEd., was appointed as professor of Physical Education.

As the growth of the College increases year after year, the physical education students too keep pace with their achievements in sports and other forms of games.

Since many students join the self-finance courses, the magnanimous Management realized the need of appointing a separate Director of Physical Education.

Thus, in 2005, Dr. Faruk Khan was appointed as the Physical Education Director. After his tenure, Mr. M. Syed Ali, (BSc, BS.P. ER, MEd., M.Phil, PGDY, DS, MA) was appointed as the Director of Physical Education in 2007.

Furthermore, from the academic year 2006 and till the current year, the college Physical Education Department has been achieving in sports. With the financial support of UGC and also with the generous financial aid of the Management, the college has brought out many facilities such as clean and leveled playground, sports equipment, and multipurpose indoor stadium for the welfare of the physical education students.

In line with the multifaceted growth of Sadakathullah Appa College in the recent past, students of Physical Education Department have produced phenomenal records, particularly between the academic years 2017 and 2020.
