About the Department

History has been offered as one of the subjects of learning right from its inception. The Department of History emerged as a full-fledged faculty imparting the degree of Bachelor of Arts in History in the year 1971 and was raised to the status of a Post Graduate Department in 1980. It became a Research Centre for M.Phil Course in 2009 and subsequently it was upgraded as a centre for Ph.D. Programme. After completing B. A. History/ M. A. History course, students can prepare for competitive examinations conducted by the UPSC, TNPSC, SSC, SET, NET and Banking Recruitment Board, Police Department and Judicial Department and the like. Subject papers such as Modern Governments and Contemporary History of India are very useful for the students to score good marks in the aforesaid examinations
