Healthy Heart, Healthy Tomorrow: An Expert Session with Dr. A.S. Arul, MD, DNB, DM (Cardiology), FACC, FESC, FSCAI, is the former Director and Head of the Department at the Institute of Cardiology, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and Madras Medic

An awareness programme was organized by the Department of Zoology, Sadakathullah Appa College (Autonomous), Tirunelveli, on 25 September 2026 to commemorate World Heart Day.
Dr. P. S. Bency, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Nutrition and Public Health, delivered the welcome address.The Principal of the College, Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, delivered the presidential address.
The Special guest, Dr. S. Arul,a renowned Cardiologist,Former  Director and HOD, Institute of Cardiology, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and Madras Medical College and former Professor and Head of Madurai and Tirunelveli Medical Colleges, delivered a special lecture on the topic “Don’t Miss a Beat.”
In his address, Dr. Arul explained the major causes of heart diseases, preventive and control measures, the importance of regular physical exercise, healthy dietary practices, and everyday lifestyle habits essential for maintaining a healthy heart. He also explained blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and various types of lipids present in the blood, including their definitions, significance, and impact on health. Drawing upon his extensive medical experience, he emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures and adopting healthy practices to reduce the risk of heart diseases.Faculty members and more than 150 students participated in the event.
Dr. M. Syed Ali Fathima, Head of the Department of Botany, proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme created valuable awareness among the students about the importance of heart health, preventive measures against heart diseases, healthy dietary practices, and the need for regular physical exercise.
