As one of the key mental health professionals; Psychologists play a significant role in developing a resilient society and making its citizens more adaptive. Ultimately, psychologists aim at providing for well-being ensuring the quality of human existence aiding to experience positive aspects of life.
World health organization has reported the increased need for mental health professionals and has quoted the statistical basis that for every one lakh individuals in India, there are 0.15 psychologists that indicates the want of psychologists to ensure psychological well being of Indians. Hence the profession of psychologist is gaining momentum and will continue to provide for mental health support especially in Indian scenario.
To establish professionalism in the practice of psychology and ethical measures; stringent courses that can orient the subject matter of Psychology and ensure skill development is the need of the hour. Being sensitive to this need, the management and administration of Sadakthullah Appa College, Tirunelveli has ventured the initiation of Psychology as an Undergraduate course. The department is first of its kind in Tirunelveli district offering bachelors’ degree in Psychology thereby being a forerunner in fulfilling the need of the native society. With affiliation from the parent university, the department of Psychology got itself established in the academic year 2021-2022.
Department of Psychology, Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli, hopefully marches into the academic pursuits with the vision of serving mental health demands and psychological well being. In the three year UG program students will be able to
