Activities - (2019-2020

Dr. A. Syed Mohamed, HOD Chemistry, delivered welcome Address and Dr. M. Mohamed Sathik, Principal Presided at two day workshop on Chromatography held on 11th March 2020. Dr. Meena, Joint Director, Directorate Collegiate Education, Tirunelveli Region felicitated the workshop.

Dr. S. Goplakrishnan Former Professor of Chemistry, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Dr. M. Kamalutheen, Former Professor of Chemistry, Sadakathullah Appa College and Mr. S. Velmurugan, Scientific Officer, Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Tirunelveli were acted as Resource persons to this workshop.

UG Chemistry Students visited to Medicinal Plants Development Area on 3rd February 2020 Accompanied by Dr. M. Thameem Ansari and Dr. Jesline Kanaga Inba

The Department of Chemistry (Aided) inaugurated its Association on July 17, 2019 with Dr. P. Thillai Arasu, Professor of Chemistry, Wollega University, Nekemta, Ethiopia, as the guest speaker. He delivered an enlightening speech on, Future of Chemistry Graduates The Department organized a guest lecture on the topic, Chemistry of Carbon on 10.01.2020 with Dr. V. Rama, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Sarah Tucker College, Tirunelveli.




The second guest lecture was organized by the department on 14.02.2020 Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan, Former Senior Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, gave a lecture on UV-Visible Spectroscopy.

A Two Day National Seminar was organized by the department on September 27 and 28, 2019. Dr. K. Pitchumani, Vice Chancellor, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, delivered the keynote address on the topic Materials in Sustainable Chemistry, Dr. G. Krishnamoorthy, Associate Dean, Research and Development, Prof of Chemistry, IIT Guwahati, Assam, spoke on the topic Proton Transfer Induced Process.

Dr. A. Subramanian, Associate Professor, Centre for Nano Science and Technology, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, gave a talk on Electrospan Nanomaterials for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells. Dr. P. Suresh, Associate Professor, Department of Natural Products Chemistry, School of Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, gave a lecture on the topic, “Graphene Oxide and its Derivatives as Sustainable Carbonaceous Catalyst for Greener Organic Transformations

UG Chemistry Students visited to Equatorial Geophysical Research Laboratory on 5th September 2019 Accompanied by Dr. I. Antony Danish.

Dr. G. Krishnamoorthy, Associate Dean, Research and Development, Prof of Chemistry, IIT Guwahati, Assam, spoke on the topic Proton Transfer Induced Process. Dr. A. Subramanian, Associate Professor, Centre for Nano Science and Technology, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, gave a talk on Electrospan Nanomaterials for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

Dr. P. Suresh, Associate Professor, Department of Natural Products Chemistry, School of Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, gave a lecture on the topic, Graphene Oxide and its Derivatives as Sustainable Carbonaceous Catalyst for Greener Organic Transformations. Dr. A. Senthil Kumar, Senior Professor, Nano and Bio-electrochemistry Research Lab, Department of Chemistry, VIT Vellore, delivered a speech on the topic, Development of Ultra Low Cost Screen Printed Carbon Electrode Technology for Highly Efficient Hydrogen Gas production

The Department also organized a Two Day State Level Seminar on March 11 and 12, 2020. Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan, Former Senior Professor and Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, delivered a lecture on the topic, Chromatography- An Overview


Mr. S. Velmurugan, Scientific Officer, Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Tirunelveli, spoke on Application of Chromatography in Forensic Science

Dr. M. Kamalutheen, Formerly Head and Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli, gave a talk on Paper Chromatography & HPLC. Around 50 students visited Equitorial Geophysical Research Laboratory, Krishnapuram, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, on 05.09.2019 as an Industrial Visit. Fifty two students visited Travancore Titanium Ltd. Trivandrum, Kerala, on 20.02.2020 as part of Industrial Visit. Collaborative Activities for Research, Faculty Exchange, Student Exchange Done during this Year:
