The Department of Economics organized the Association Inaugural Programme on July 31, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. in the College Auditorium. The programme commenced with Qirath, marking the formal beginning of the academic association activities for the year.
Dr. (Lt. Cdr.) A. Asok, Vice Principal and Head, Associate Professor, Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi, delivered the keynote address on the topic “Union Budget 2024–25: Evaluating Funds Allotment for Various Sectors.” In his lecture, he analyzed sector-wise budget allocations and explained their implications for economic development, emphasizing how government spending influences growth in infrastructure, agriculture, industry, and social sectors. His address provided students with a clear understanding of budget priorities and their economic impact.
The programme included a welcome address by Dr. M. Sulthana Barvin, Associate Professor and Head of the Department. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. S. M. A. Syed Mohammed Khaja, Vice Principal. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. M. Esakkiammal, Assistant Professor and Head.

The Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Training and Placement Cell, organized a Career Guidance Programme on “Exploring the Unknown Careers in Economics” on October 17, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. in the Seminar Hall of the College. The programme commenced with Qirath.
Mr. P. Packia Ganesh Pandi, Block Health Statistician, Family Welfare Department, delivered the keynote address and provided valuable insights into the diverse and lesser-known career opportunities available for Economics graduates. He highlighted career prospects in public health, data analysis, government departments, research organizations, and policy planning. His talk helped students understand how economic knowledge can be applied across various interdisciplinary fields.
The programme featured a welcome address by Dr. M. Petchiammal, Assistant Professor, followed by the presidential address delivered by Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, Principal. The felicitation address was given by Dr. S. M. A. Syed Mohamed Khaja, Vice Principal. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. J. Mohamed Jaseem, Assistant Professor.

The Department of Economics organized a debate on “Union Budget 2025: Key Highlights with a Focus on Five Major Sectors” on February 10, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in the College Auditorium. The programme commenced with Qirath.
Dr. M. Chellathurai, Head, P.G. Department of Economics, Ambai Arts College, Ambasamudram, served as the Chief Guest and Judge for the debate. The participants critically discussed the key highlights of the Union Budget 2025 with special reference to five major sectors, enabling students to analyze policy priorities and sector-wise allocations. The debate encouraged analytical thinking, policy evaluation, and active student participation.

Dr. J. Moses Gnanakkan, Assistant Professor of Economics, Nazareth Margoschis College, Pillaiyanmanai, Nazareth, Thoothukudi, served as the Chief Guest and Resource Person for the programme. In his address, he highlighted the current economic trends in Tamil Nadu, focusing on key sectors such as agriculture, industry, services, and infrastructure, and shared insights on the future growth prospects of the state economy. His lecture helped students gain a deeper understanding of regional economic development and policy challenges.
