ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION PROGRAMME ON “MOTIVATING ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT AMONG ECONOMICS STUDENTS”

The Department of Economics conducted its Association Inauguration Programme on August 13, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in the Seminar Hall of the College. The programme commenced with Qirath, recited by Regan, II B.A. Economics.

Dr. N. Esakki, Associate Professor of Economics, Ambai Arts College, Ambasamudram, delivered the keynote address on the topic “Motivating Entrepreneurial Spirit Among Economics Students.” In his address, he emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in the present economic scenario and encouraged students to explore innovative business ideas, self-employment opportunities, and start-up initiatives related to the field of Economics. His talk inspired students to develop entrepreneurial thinking and practical skills.

The programme included a welcome address by Dr. M. Esakkiammal, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, followed by the presidential address delivered by Dr. R. Janet Rani, Vice Principal. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Durga Kayathri, III B.A. Economics.

The programme was highly beneficial for the Economics students, enhancing their awareness of entrepreneurial opportunities. The faculty members of the Department played a pivotal role in planning and organizing the event, and their guidance and support contributed significantly to the success of the inauguration programme.

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME ON “SHAPING YOUR FUTURE”

The Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Training and Placement Cell, organized a Career Guidance Programme on October 7, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the Seminar Hall of the College. The programme commenced with Qirath.

Dr. P. Jaya Prapakaran, Associate Professor of Economics, The MDT Hindu College, Pettai, Tirunelveli, delivered the keynote address on the topic “Shaping Your Future.” In his address, he motivated students to identify their career goals, develop essential skills, and make informed decisions regarding higher education, competitive examinations, and employment opportunities. His talk encouraged students to plan their future with confidence and clarity.

The programme included a welcome address by Dr. M. Petchiammal, Assistant Professor, followed by the presidential address delivered by Dr. R. Janet Rani, Vice Principal. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mufsira Banu, I B.A. Economics.

The session was highly informative and beneficial to the Economics students, helping them gain clarity and direction for their future careers.

National Startup Day Programme

The Department of Economics at Sadakathullah Appa College (Autonomous), Tirunelveli, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council, organized a National Startup Day Programme on “Dream and Deliver in Startup: Vision to Leadership” on 30 January 2026 at 3:30 p.m. in the college auditorium. The event aimed to promote entrepreneurial thinking and awareness of startup culture among students.

The programme began with a Qirath by Regan, followed by a welcome address by Ms. Salma Shereef and a presidential address by Dr. R. Janet Rani. The keynote speaker, Mr. Gibson Aaron, Director of Travel Jones, shared his entrepreneurial journey and highlighted the importance of vision, perseverance, and planning. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Sulthaniya. Overall, the programme was inspiring and encouraged students to explore entrepreneurship and leadership.

STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS

National Sports Day Celebration

On the occasion of National Sports Day, celebrated on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the Department of Economics participated in the programme organized by the CGE Physical Education Department to promote sportsmanship and fitness.

Students actively took part in various events, especially the Tug of War competition, where they demonstrated strong teamwork and determination, securing second prize. The achievement was appreciated by the Principal, Vice Principal, and faculty members, motivating students further.

The celebration was a memorable experience, encouraging students to value teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition.

College Sports Day

The 55th Annual Sports Day was held on 14 February 2026 at the college playground with enthusiastic participation from all departments. The event promoted physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.

Students from the Department of Economics actively participated in various events and, through their dedication and team spirit, secured fourth place in the overall championship and in the march past. The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, making it a memorable occasion that encouraged unity, discipline, and healthy competition.

Overall Champion Title in the "State Level Eco Fest - 2026"

Students of the Department of Economics won the Overall Champion Title at the State Level Eco Fest – 2026 held on 23rd February at St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, with participation from over 13 colleges. They secured prizes in more than ten competitions, bringing great pride to the institution.

In the competitions, Rithika Sri and Indhu won the First Prize in Rangoli. Mubsira and Pavithra secured the First Prize in the Entrepreneurial Challenge Model Event. Pavithra and Catherine won the First Prize in the Tamil Debate Competition.In the Quiz Competition, Durga Gayathri and Catherine won the Second Prize. Balashanmugakkani, secured the Second Prize in the Tamil Speech Competition. Nishanthi won the Second Prize in the Art from Waste Competition.

In the English Essay Writing Competition, Mubira secured the Third Prize. Rithika Sri won the Third Prize in the Pencil Sketch Competition, and Vanitha secured the Third Prize in the Vegetable Carving Competition. In the Just a Minute Competition, Durga Gayathri participated and won the Third Prize. Finally, the students won the Overall Winner Champion Trophy.

The students were trained and guided for the competitions by Dr. N. Sahar Ban, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. The College Principal, Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, appreciated the students and distributed certificates. The Vice Principal, Dr. Janet Rani, congratulated and addressed the students. Dr. Sultana Barveen, Dean of Sports and Fine Arts, encouraged the students to participate in many more competitions.

The Head of the Department of Economics, Dr. M. Esakkiammal, along with Assistant Professors, Dr. Petchiammal and Ms. Salma Shereef, also congratulated the students for their achievements.
