DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY


Activities - (2019-2020)

The Department of History had its Association Inauguration on 25.07.2019 and the Resource person Dr. L. Ravisankar, Head & Associate Professor, Department of History, Thiruvalluvar College, Papanasam, gave a lecture on the topic, “History and Myth”. The first guest lecture was arranged by the department on 19.09.2019 where Dr. Thiruneelakandan, Associate Professor, Department of History, The M.D.T. Hindu College, gave a lecture on “Formation of Modern Society in Tamil Nadu”. The second guest lecture was organized on 20.12.2019 with Dr. Amalanathan, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Tirunelveli, as the guest speaker. He gave a lecture on the topic, “Minorities in Postcolonial India”.

The department organized a National Seminar on 10. 10. 2019. Dr. P.P. Abdul Razak, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, University of Calicut, Kerala, gave the Keynote Address. Prof. A. Marx from Gandhian Scholar and Human Rights Activist, Chennai, delivered a lecture on “Secularism as Conceived by Gandhi”. Dr. M. William Baskaran, Professor, Centre for Gandhian Studies, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, spoke on the topic, “Mahathma Gandhi: A Relentless Activist”. Dr. R. Ramasubramanian, Assistant Professor & Head i/c Department of History, Manonmanian Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, offered the Valedictory Address.


The department organized an Exhibition and Lecture in order to observe the Institutional Republic Day and Martyrs’ Day on January 30 and 31, 2020. B. Riyas Ahamed, Sub Editor, Puthiya Vidiyal Velli, Chennai, spoke on the theme “The Idea of India”. Raja Amanullah, President, Green Media Network, Madurai, gave a lecture on “India’s Struggle for Independence From 1498-1947 A.D.” Sadakath Students’ Association and Wall Journal inauguration was done on 16.03.2020. Tmt. S. Sathiyavalli, District Curator, Govt. Museum, Tirunelveli, spoke on the “Historical Importance of Keeladi”. All PG Students and final year UG students with along with faculty visited the Keeladi excavation site at Madurai on 30.09.2019 as an Industrial Visit.
