INAUGURATION

INAUGURATION ON 22.08.2024

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized an Association Inauguration Programme for the academic year of 2024-2025 on 22.08.2024. Mr. E. Lakshmanan, Senior Clinical Dietitan, Kauvery Hospital, Tirunelveli was the chief guest. He delivers his talk on “Understanding Chronic Kidney Diseases: Prevention Management and Importance of Early Detection”. Mr. S. M. Prasad, Head Department of Nutrition and Dietetics delivered the Welcome address. Mrs. V. Angel Mary proposed vote of thanks. Around 150 students were benefited.

GUEST LECTURE

GUEST LECTURE ON 09.10.2024

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics in collaboration with the department of physics organized a guest lecture on 09.10.2024. Mr. Syed R Hassan, Professor, Department of Physics, The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai delivered his speech on “Exploring Molecular Gastronomy”. Dr.. S. M. Abdul Kader, Principal, Sadakathullah Appa College, gave the presidential address. Mr. S. M. Prasad, Head Department of Nutrition and Dietetics proposed his vote of thanks. Around 220 students were participated and benefited by this programme.

GUEST LECTURE ON 14.03.2025

The department of nutrition and Dietetics organize a Guest lecture Programme on "Mastering Nutrition for peak athletic Performance" at the seminar hall on 14.03.2025. Ms. K. Ramya, Head and Assistant professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, SRNM College, sattur, delivered her speech on the importance and requirements of nutrients needed for sports person. Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, principal, Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli, gave the presendential address. Dr. S.M.A Syed Mohammad Khaja, Vice-principal, Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli, felicitate the gathering. Mr. S. M Prasad, Head and Assistant professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, proposed his welcome address. Mrs. C. Aruna Sundari, Assistant professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Introduce the chief guest, Ms. F. Fathima Farzana, Assistant professor, Nutrition and Dietetics proposed her vote of thanks. 170 students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics were participated in this guest lecture Programme

PROGRAMMES FOR PARTICIPATIVE LEARNING

NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK CUM SALES EXPO CELEBRATION ON 03.09.2024

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Sadakathullah Appa College, organized the National Nutrition Week celebration sales cum Expo on 03.09.2024. Mr. S.M. Prasad, Head and Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics delivered his welcome address. College Principal Dr. S. M Abdul Khader inaugurated the function. Vice-Principal, Dr. S. M. A Syed Mohammad Khaja emphasized the importance of traditional food habits. Special guest, Mrs. Jenifa, Child Development and Project officer, Tirunelveli Block was the guest speaker. A food fair expo cum sales and poster presentation competition was conducted for the students. The students and teachers of Sarah Tucker School participated in the occasion. Assistant Professors of the Department Mrs. V. Angel Mary and Mrs. M. Vadivel Devi coordinated the function.

WORLD HEART DAY CELEBRATION ON 01.10.2024

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrated world heart day in the indoor sports ground on 01.10.2024. Mr. S. M Prasad, Head and Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, delivered a welcome speech. Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, Principal, Sadakathullah Appa college, felicitate the gathering. Dr. S. M. A. Syed Mohamed Khaja, Vice-Principal, Sadakathullah Appa college delivered his speech on “Importance of Heart Health”.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

INDUSTRIAL VISIT ON 04.08.2024

"Students from Tirunelveli Sadakathullah Appa College visited the Adichanallur archaeological site on 04.08.2024. The students from the Master's program in Nutrition and Dietetics were accompanied by their department staff, Dr. J. Merrylin. They were greeted by the archaeological site's custodian and writer Muthalan Kurichi Kamraj, who provided an overview of the site. Following this, Indian Archaeological Officer Venkatesh explained the significance of the artifacts found at the site. Teacher Manickam of Sivagalai delivered a lecture on the dietary habits and occupations of ancient civilizations. Finally, Department staff Dr. J. Merrylin expressed gratitude to all involved.

WORKSHOP AND HANDS ON TRAINING PROGAMME

WORKSHOP CUM HANDS ON TRAINING PROGRAMME ON 16.10.2024

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics in collaboration with Skill India, conducted a Workshop cum hands on training programme on 16.10.2024 for the students of II PG and III UG students. Mrs. K. Thirumalai Selvi, Former Subject Matter Expert in Home Science, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tirunelveli District, Assistant Professor department of Food Science and Nutrition, Sarah Tucker College, Tirunelveli was the resource person. she delivers his speech on “Hands on Training on Value Added Products from Plantain” and also, she demonstrates different value added products using plantain including plantain fig, plantain milkshake, plantain peel pickle. Mr. S. M Prasad, Head and Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, delivered a welcome speech. Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, Principal, Sadakathullah Appa college, felicitate the gathering. Dr. S. M. A. Syed Mohamed Khaja, Vice-Principal, Sadakathullah Appa college delivered his speech on “Different types of plantains and their health benefits”. Mrs. C. Aruna Sundari, Assistant Professor, department of Nutrition and Dietetics successful organized the programme. Around 53 students were participated and benefited from this training programme.

“State level workshop on FoSTaC (Food Safety Certification and Training) Training on General Manufacturing” On 22.02.2025

The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics (UG & PG) and The Training and Placement Cell of Sadakathullah Appa College and Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, Tirunelveli jointly organized a “State level workshop on FoSTaC (Food Safety Certification and Training) Training on General Manufacturing” on 22nd February, 2025 at 10 am in the college Auditorium. Mr. S. M Prasad Head and Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Sadakathullah Appa College has delivered the welcome address. Dr. R. Sasi Deepa, Designated officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, Tirunelveli gave the introductory speech about the workshop. Mrs. K. S. Sorna Lakshmi, Certified FSSAI-FoSTaC Trainer, trained the students about Food Adulteration, Quality Control, Food Regulation and Food Safety by demonstration and posters. Mr. T. Ramakrishnan, Food Safety Officer gave awareness about the health effects of drugs among college boys and he insist the students to report the usage of drugs by scanning a QR code provided by TN government. Mrs. C. Aruna Sundari, Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics delivered the vote of thanks. About 180 students and staff members from the department were participated and benefited by this training programme.

AWARNESS PROGAMME

The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics (UG & PG) and Sadakath Outreach Programme (SOP) jointly organized an awareness campaign on “STRONG KIDS EATS HEALTHY BITES” at our adopted village Santhaipettai on 31st January, 2025 (Friday) between 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dr. A. I. Shakul Hameed (Assistant Professor and Co-ordinator of SOP), Mrs. C. Aruna Sundari, Assistant Professor and Department In-charge (UG) and Ms. F. Fathima Farzana, Assistant Professor and Department In-charge (PG) presided the awareness campaign. 25 Girl students from II B.Sc and I M.Sc Nutrition and Dietetics had participated. Our students highlighted the importance of eating breakfast with cartoon characters. They addressed nearly 30 children, emphasizing the importance of adopting healthy eating habits through charts and posters. To make learning fun our students organized various games & activities and also distributed gifts for them. Through this program, they learned the significance of having a nutritious breakfast, and the harmful effects of junk foods.

CANCER AWARENESS COMPETITION ON 05.02.2025

The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics (UG & PG), organized a competition on 5th February 2025 (Wednesday) at 11:30 AM in Hall No. 233, with the aim of raising awareness among students about Cancer. The event featured two competitions: Poster Making and Essay Writing, both centered around cancer-related themes. The Poster Making Competition had the theme “Early Detection and Cancer Prevention”, while the Essay Writing Competition focused on “Nutritional Support in Chemotherapy Patients”. Several students from various departments of our college participated in both the competitions. The competitions were judged by two distinguished professionals Mrs. P. Shamitha [Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics] , Ms. V. Akshaya[Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics] from Arunachala College of Arts and Science for Women, Kanyakumari District. The event was organized by Mrs. C. Aruna Sundari[Assistant Professor], and Mrs. A. Afrose Fathima [Guest Lecturer] of our department. The event provided an engaging platform for students to express their knowledge and creativity while spreading awareness on important cancer-related issues. It was a successful initiative in educating students about early cancer detection and nutritional care during treatment.
