About the Department

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1972. The mission of the department is to offer Post-Graduate and Research programs in Mathematics for students and scholars across Tirunelveli district. During the academic year 2007-2008, the department was upgraded as a Post Graduate Department with MSc Mathematics in the Unaided Stream. Due to the overwhelming responses and demand for the course, BSc Mathematics (Unaided Course) was started in the year 2015. The department has been offering full time M.Sc since 2007 and M.Phil, Ph.D programmes (Full time\Part time) since 2018. At present, the department consists of qualified and competent faculty. Three of the department faculty have successfully completed the UGC Minor Research Project in the year 2014-2016. At present, the unaided department has 182 students and 7 dedicated members of faculty. Mathematicians’ associations provide a platform for the students to exhibit their academic talents and their leadership qualities by means of opportunities to participate and conduct competitions.
