About Department

Arabic is one of the oldest living classical languages in the world. It is an official language of the UN. Arabic is the language of more than 22 Member States of the UNESCO.

It is one of the most widespread languages spoken by more than 422 million people in the Asian and African continents. Above all, it is the language of the Holy Qur’an and of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). There is great scope for learners of Arabic language across the world. Knowledge of spoken and written Arabic helps in employment opportunities both in private and public sectors.

Persons with Arabic knowledge could the get the opportunity in foreign ministries, Defense, radio, television, internet based jobs and as foreign delegates. Further, there are opportunities in journalism, tourism, translation, and openings in MNCs, embassies of various Arabic nations.

Ever since the college was established in the year 1971 , the department of Arabic has been in existence. The department offers Arabic language as an optional paper for all the UG students of the college. It also conducts Certificate and Diploma Courses in Arabic, Diploma in Islamic Theology and UGC funded Career Oriented Program in Arabic Translation.

Introducing New Courses

The Department offers Certificate Course in Arabic and Diploma Course in Islamic Theology.

The Department also offers UGC-sponsored courses such as Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Arabic Translation under COP.

B.A. in Islamic Studies was started in the year 2013.

Innovations in Teaching

Audiovisual lab is used for teaching Applied Grammar to make the teaching of Arabic an interactive and interesting one.

Scope for Employment:

Students, after the completion of their degree, have chances to take up suitable jobs in MNCs and call-centers both in India and abroad. The competent students get the placement offers as secretaries, managers, translators, teachers and office assistants in the Middle-East countries.

Highlights

The Department regularly conducts state and national level conferences.

To create awareness among the students, the Department conducts quiz programmes every year.

For the benefit of the students, the Department periodically conducts Guest Lectures.

Consultancy service in translation for the people in need is rendered by the Department.

Dheeniyat (Islamic Moral) classes are conducted by the Department every Wednesday for all the Muslim students of the College. (Moral classes are conducted for non-Muslim students)

The Department facilitates students to use e-contents and CDs containing conversations in Arabic to enhance their conversational skills.
