English

The Research Department of English offers courses in the English Language, Literature, Translation and Journalism. B.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D programmes are being offered. The Department has been recognised as a Research Centre in the academic year 2015-2016.

Dr. S. Mohamed Haneef, Dr.Kanna Muthiah, Dr.K.Hema, Lt.Dr. K. Syed Ali Bhadhusha and Dr.Yunush Ahamed Mohamed Sherif are the approved research guides. Dr. S. Mohamed Haneef, Lt. Dr.K.Syed Ali Bhadhusha got Minor Research Projects under the UGC XII plan. The faculty members have authored books on Translation, Spoken English, Comparative Literature, Current English Usage and Theories and Practice of Translation.

There has been a remarkable progression in the admission of students both at UG and PG level. The department strivesits utmost importance to shape the young minds and discover their talents. Creaming with qualified and vibrant members of faculty, the department offers specialization in the areas of Language, Literature, Linguistics, Translation and Film Studies such as Phonetics, Postcolonial Literature, American Literature, History of English Language, Indian Writing in English, Canadian Literature, Translation, etc.


The department organizes guest lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences as a part of the literary association activity in order to make students familiarize in the respective subjects through various resource persons across the world. Apart from academic activities, it encourages the students to take part in co-curricular activities such as sports and other cultural events.
