          The Department of Physics Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli, Hosts Lunar Exploration and Stargazing Event in Commemoration of International Moon Day on 21, July 2023.The department organized a sky watching event to celebrate the International Moon Day in collaboration with the Thamirabarani Astro Science Forum and District Science Centre, Tirunelveli. The event drew about 300 students from schools and colleges in and around Tirunelveli, and a sizeable number of the public who delighted in watching the Moon and planets through telescopes which were handled by Mr. Marilenin of District Science Centre, Tirunelveli. The programme featured an enlightening presentation by Mr. G. Arul Jerald Prakash, Former Director of Kerala Science and Technology Museum, Trivandrum, who shared the global history of space exploration. The Principal S.M.Abdul Kader, presided over the event in the presence of the Executive Committee Member Er. LKMA Muhammad Nawab Hussain. Mr. S. M. Kumar, Tirunelveli District Science Centre Officer, delivered an enchanting speech that captivated the students. He showcased the images of various stars and expressed his joy of stargazing. Mr. Swamidoss, Coordinator of Tirunelveli Astro Club, delivered the lecture about ‘The Universe” which enthralled students. As part of creating awareness among students on Indian space exploration, a documentary screening was also arranged in front of Indoor Stadium that added an additional glamour to this memorable occasion.

          A special seminar and live telecast of soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on moon was held on 23.08.2023 at Sadakathullah Appa College was organized by Department of Physics in collaboration with Nellai Astronomy club. The event featured a live telecast of the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon. The seminar commenced with an inauguration by Dr. Mohammad Roshan, the Head of the Department of Physics. Dr. Abdul Kader, the Principal of the college, addressed the students and encouraged them to pursue the study of science. Vice Principal Dr. Mohammad Kaja delivered the felicitation address. Dr. Asweel Ahmed A Jaleel, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, gave a presentation on the history and significance of the Chandrayaan missions. The students had the opportunity to witness this historic event live and responded with applause.

          A rare celestial event called “Zero Shadow Day” was celebrated in Sadakathullah Appa College on 30th August 2023. Zero Shadow means no shadow falling on objects. No shadow falls on vertical objects. It can be called zero shadow day or no shadow day. The event was organized under the leadership of the Department of Physics and was held in the college auditorium. The welcome address for the program was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Roshan, Head of the UG Department of Physics. The Principal of the College, Dr. S.M. Abdul Kader delivered the Presidential address. The Vice Principal Dr. S.M.A. Syed Mohammad Khaja delivered the Felicitation address. Mr. D. Swami Das, Coordinator, Nellai Astro Club, Tirunelveli gave a lecture on the significance of this day. Then, at exactly 12.10 pm, the students were taken to the college grounds and the circumference of the earth was measured using the length of an object's shadow. Through this activity-based learning, students learned about the significance of this day. The program instilled interest in science-based learning among the students.

          The Department of Physics, Sadakatullah Appa College, Tirunelveli, organized a programme in Commemoration of International Photography Day with a Special Lecture on “Capturing Moments: The art and Science of Photography” on August 31st11.30 a.m. in the College Seminar hall with great enthusiasm and creative fervour. World Photography Day is observed on August 19th every year to make everyone realize the glory of photography. The event aims to recognize the art of photography and its impact on storytelling, culture and self-expression. Mr. L.M.Sufyan, a student of III B.Sc. Physics recited verses from the holy Quran. Dr. M. Mohamed Roshan, the Head of the U.G Department of Physics and Dean of Sciences welcomed the gathering. Dr. S.M. Abdul Kader, the Principal delivered the Presidential Address. Dr. S.M.A Mohamed Khaja, the Vice-Principal, offered his felicitations. A Campus Photography contest was announced on August 19thto encourage a healthy competition among the students of various Departments. Participants submitted their best photographs based on the specific theme “Flora and Fauna found on our Campus”. Entries were judged by an expert panel, inclusive of the chief Guest. Dr.A. Zeenath Bazeera, the Head of the P.G Department of Physics Assistant Professor of Physics introduced the Chief Guest, The Chief guest, Dr. J.P. Josephine Baba, Head and Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Communication, St. Xavier's College, Tirunelveli spoke on “Capturing the Moments : The Art and Science of Photography". In her speech, she mentioned that Photography is a perfect blend of Art and Science. Cash Prizes were awarded to the winners. Mrs. A. Ferin Fathima, Assistant Professor of Physics, proposed a vote of thanks and the meeting ended at 1.30 p.m. The celebration of International Day of Photography had a significant impact on developing artistic expression, creativity and technical skills of the students. Many students were inspired to explore photography not only as a hobby but also as a viable career path.

          The Department of Physics, Sadakathullah Appa College organized a guest lecture on "The Secrets of Black Holes" on October 30th, 2023 in the Seminar Hall. Prof. Dr. Jaffino Stargen D, Assistant Dean of the Research School of Arts & Natural Sciences at Joy University, Tamil Nadu, was the Chief Guest. The lecture began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. L. M. Sufyan, a student from III B.Sc. Physics. Dr. M. Mohamed Roshan, the Head of the Department of Physics, welcomed the guests and audience. Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, the Principal of Sadakathullah Appa College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of the occasion. The Felicitation Address was given by Dr. SMA Mohamed Khaja, the Vice Principal. Prof. Dr. JaffinoStargen D provided valuable insights into the mysterious world of black holes. He shared personal stories and experiences that inspired and motivated the students. He encouraged them not to limit themselves with self-imposed constraints, stressing that they can achieve great heights through hard work and dedication.
