About the Department

The Department of Microbiology was started in the year 1997 with undergraduate programme and was elevated as Research department in 2018. The post graduate programme (M.Sc) was started in the year 2009.

Microbiology is the study of a diverse group of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae and protozoa. The course focuses on the general principles of microbiology and their effect on other living forms and environment. The goal of our programme is to provide basic and comprehensive interactive education in microbiology and to enhance the research activities along with state of the art laboratory and industrial interaction and internships. The graduation project provides an opportunity for the students for in-depth learning related to academic or a self- selected topic. The students are encouraged to communicate their research outcomes and views among the scientific society. The department has qualified and competent faculty members(7 PhD, 1- PDF (UGC) and 2-SET Qualified) with broad teaching and research experience with research publications in both national and international peer-reviewed/ SCI journals..

Since 2015, the department offers certificate course in Medical Laboratory Technology (CMLT). From the MLT course, the students will be able to apply their knowledge and technical skills associated with medical lab technology and perform routine clinical laboratory associated analysis. By 2022, a certificate course in Quality Control and Analysis (CQCA) is also being offered to impart knowledge in the field of Food, Dairy and Pharmaceutical industries.
