Activities - (2016-2017)

The Department of Tamil (Aided) started its departmental activities with the Seethakathi Tamil Peravai Special Lecture on 30.08.2016. The Department also conducted a National Level Seminar on தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தில் தன்னம்பிக்கைச் சிந்தனைகள் on 27.09.2016. Mr. Devandra Boopathi, a renowned Tamil poet, was the guest of honour. Two Guest Lectures were organized. The Department also conducted three Endowment Lectures. WAVOO Endowment Lecture was organized on 31.12.2016. Prof. M. Sheik Abdullah of Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy, delivered a speech on முஹ்யத்தீன் மாலையில் வலிமார்களின் கோமான் (ரஹ்) அவர்களின் வாழ்வியல். Dr. R. Mohammed Rafeek of Hajee Karutha Rawuthar Houdhiya College, Uthamapaalayam, spoke on நபிகளார் (ஸல்) புகழ் பாடும் தமிழ் கவிகள் during the Sadavadani Seyhuthambi Pavalar Endowment Lecture on 11.02.2017. Alhaj. L.K.S. Mohamed Meeran Mohideen Tharahanar Endowment Lecture was organized on 11.03.2017. Dr. J. Sadakathulla, Regional Director (Rtd), Reserve Bank of India, South Zonal Office, Tirunelveli, delivered a lecture on Islamic Finance. The Department also organized an International Seminar on தமிழ் மரபுகளை ஆவணப் படுத்துதல் on 27.12.2016. Two debates were enthusiastically conducted by the Department. Deepavali Special Debate was conducted on 25.10.2016 and Women’s Day Debate was conducted on 08.03.2017. The Department has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tamil Heritage Foundation, Malaysia.

The Department of Tamil (Unaided) inaugurated its association with Dr. S. Mahadevan, Head, Department of Tamil (aided), Sadakathullah Appa College as the chief guest on 26.08.2016. The Department also organized a State Level Workshop on Writing Poetry on 04.10.2016. Poetess Thilaga Bhama, Bharathi Ilaiya Sangam, Poet Dr. Anbu Siva, Hindustan Arts and Science College, Coimbatore and Dr. Shafrin Muneer, Annai Hajira Women’s College, Tirunelveli were the Resource Persons. A special lecture was organized by the department with Prof. K. Sheik Thamby, Department of Economics, Sadakathullah Appa College as the guest speaker on 11.01.2017. Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme was conducted by the department on 05.10.2016 with B. Udhaya Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Tirunelveli, and G. Ganapathy Subramanian, Tamil Nadu Traffic Police Warden, Tirunelveli, as the guest speakers. The Department also organized a law awareness programme on 03.03.2017 with Thiru. A. Anthony Pitchai, M.A., B.L., Varagi Free Law Counsel Centre, as the resource person.
