Activities - (2018-2019)

The Department of Tamil (Aided) inaugurated its Association activities on 25.09.2018 with a lecture titled, Naanum En Kavithaikalum by the Sahithya Akademi Winner, Tamil writer, Thiru. Vannadasan. The department conducted its second guest lecture on 27.08.2018 by Mr. Maalan, Executive Member, Sahithya Akademi, Chennai who spoke on the topic, Karpithalil Oodagankal.

The third guest lecture was held on 29.10.2018 with the title, En Tamil by Mr.Mathan Raja, Federation of Tamil Associations in United Kingdom. A National level Symposium was arranged by the department in association with Sahithya Akademi on 28.08.2018

titled, Religion and Literature. Mr. Maalan, Executive Member, Sahitya Academy, Chennai, Dr. Sirpi Balasubramanian, Sahithya Academy Awardee, Dr. S. Mahadevan, Head, Department of Tamil, Sadakathullah Appa College, Rahmath Nagar, Dr. A. S. Sheik Sintha, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, Sadakathullah Appa College, Rahmath Nagar and Dr. Sonal, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, St. Mary’s College, Tuticorin were the resource persons.

The department organized an International Conference on 18.12.2018 titled, Tamil Ilakiyathil Ariviyal Sinthanaigal. The renowned personalities such as Mrs.Andal Priyadharshini, Programme Head, Doordarshan Kendra, Pondicherry, Dr. Murugamoorthy Thusyanathan & Dr. Thusyanathan Kalaiselvi, University of Jaffna, Srilanka, Dr. Vareethiah Konstantine, Chennai, Dr. S. Sadasivam, Madras Christian College, Chennai,

Dr. S. M. Abdul Kader, Dean of Sciences, Sadakathullah Appa College, Rahmath Nagar, Mr. John Pradap, Programme Executive, All India Radio, Tirunelveli and Thoppil Mohamed Meeran, Sahitya Academy Awardee were the resource persons of the seminar.

The department has also associated with Nellai Kathir TV, Minnuunjal in the process of making a short film by 50 students which enhances the students ‘knowledge in the field of media.

The department has also collaborated with The Tamil Heritage Foundation, Malaysia on 27.12.2018 for documenting the legacy of Tamil at the International level. Sixty teachers and two hundred and fifty students are taking part in this programme.

The Department of Tamil (Unaided) inaugurated its association on 08.08.2018 with a speech of Mr. Paneer Selvam, Tamil Teacher, St. Mary’s School, Vickramasingapuram titled, Eliya Muraiyil Ilakanathai Arithal.

The department conducted a guest lecture on 22.02.2019 and Dr. N. Stephen, Professor, Depatment of Tamil, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli was the resource person and delivered a wonderful speech on the topic, Valakaraukalum Samookamum.

The department also organized a State Level Seminar on 05.10.2018 titled, Ilaku Tamil Ilakkana Payilarangam;, where nearly 180 students participated in it. Dr. V. Manickam, Former Head, Department of Tamil, St.John’s College, Palayamkottai, Dr. S. Naganathan, Assistant Professor, Ramasamy Tamil College, Karaikudi and Dr. S. Thirugnana Sampandham, Associate Professor, Arasar College, Thiruvaiyaru were the resource persons of the seminar.
