The Department of Zoology had its inauguration of its Association on 12.08.2021 with a special talk on “Elephant- an Umbrella species” by Mr. M. G. Ganesan, Eco development Officer, Kalakad Mundathurai Tiger Reserve. The Department along with Government museum organized a poster presentation competition to students studying in 8th,9th and 10th classes to celebrate the world Elephant day.
The World heart day was celebrated on 29-09-2021 with Government Museum, Tirunelveli. The resource person was Mr. A.R.Sankaralingam, Food Safety Officer, Palayamkottai. III B.Sc., Zoology students Participated, Presented Posters and Displayed the healthy Foods in the Workshop.
The Department also organized two guest lectures. The first guest lecture was on the topic “The Rationale of Wildlife Conservation” on 08-10-2021 and Dr.M.Narayanan, Former Controller of Examinations, Sadakathullah Appa College was the resource person.
The second guest Lecture was organized by Department of Zoology and Botany on 22-04-2022. Ms. S. HemaLatha, I.F.S. Assistant conservator of Forest, Tirunelveli Range was the Chief Guest. She delivered a talk on “Invest in our planet”
One day Workshop on “House Sparrow nest box techniques”to commemorate the “International Day of Biodiversity”was conducted on 23.05.2022. Mr.M.Rajesh, Assistant professor, Department of Zoology, The American College, Madurai taught the method of nest box techniques to the students. Nearly 156 students, of UG, PG and Research Scholars attended the workshop. Sparrow nest boxes were distributed to other students of our college. The students identified more than 25 species of birds in our college campus.
Valedictory function of Zoology Association (UG) was organized on11-06-2022.Dr. N. Jayakumar, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Fisheries Resource Management, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi was the Chief Guest. He delivered a talk on the topic “Conservation and Management of Marine Fisheries Resources in India”
